A funeral for Terence Michael Esmay, a former Portland resident, will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Peake Memorial Chapel in Milwaukie.

Mr. Esmay died of liver cancer Wednesday in a Seattle hospital. He was 43. Disposition will be by cremation.

He was born Oct. 24, 1946, in Portland. He graduated from The Dalles High School in 1964 and Oregon State University in 1969. He earned a master's degree from The Thunderbird Graduate School of International Management in Glendale, Ariz.

After school, Mr. Esmay moved to Tokyo and worked for an advertising company for 12 years. He married Taedo Kudo in Japan on Feb. 14, 1981. He returned to the United States in 1985. Mr. Esmay was a vice-president for J.D. Cook travel company in Seattle for the past four years.

Survivors include his wife, Taeko of Tukwila, Wash.; mother and stepfather, Naomi and Charles Peterson, both of Redlands, Calif.; brother, Jerry Esmay of Bend and sister, Barbara Rhode of Roseburg.
